Archaeological Ethics for the modern world

Joe Abrams had the opportunity to present as part of a thought provoking and necessary session named Archaeological Ethics for the modern world. This session took place at the 2023 Chartered Institute for Archaeologists - CIfA 2023 Sustainable Futures - Standards Skills and the Profession.

The Conference took place in Nottingham and the sessions included:

The register of professional Archaeologists - Kenneth Aitchison, RPA

Revising the code of conduct - Peter Hinton Chief Executive, Chartered Institute for Archaeologists

A contract - Joe Abrams

Recognising cultural diversity in a global code of professional ethics - Leonora O'Brien, AECOM

Joe presented a talk exploring the Contract which exists between CIfA and The Public. Joe explored the meaning of the Body Corporate in order to encourage understanding of the important role each individual member of CIfA plays in the professional delivery of archaeological work. Through that work, those individuals, have the opportunity to increase the availability of information to the public and to ensure our sector is held in high esteem.

Joe raised questions on how to ensure a sense of pride in CIfA and its code of conduct is retained and amplified. This to ensure that our code of ethics is lifted from the page and into the daily behaviour of all Members of CIfA.

The talk is available at this location:
